Our Program
Welcome to the Child Care Nursery School!
We are a nursery school program for children ages 3 - 5 years in Selkirk, Manitoba. Our classroom is located in the High School in Selkirk and we run in conjunction with the Human Ecology program. Registration is open to all children in the community and surrounding areas.
We believe that each child is unique, with different interests, experiences and ways of learning. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment that helps to meet the needs of all children, and to promote their physical, intellectual, social and emotional well-being.
Our High School students, who are involved with the Family Studies program, work hard to implement a variety of open-ended and hands-on activities for the children. In their course work they are studying all aspects, and various theories of child development, how to use observation skills to learn about children, and how to nurture and guide children.
With the support of the classroom teachers and nursery school director, the high school students use what they are learning in the classroom to implement activities for the children in the center. The result is a very dynamic environment where the children are free to master new skills as they socialize, create, discover and build self-confidence.
Each week activities are planned for the children around a central theme. We work to build on the concepts and skills the children are learning throughout the Nursery School. Books, puzzles and toys are rotated to reinforce the theme of the week.
Our program runs on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9:05 - 11:05 am.
We follow the high school semester system with two sessions running each school year. Semester 1 is from September to mid-January and semester 2 runs from mid-February to early June.
Families have the choice of either the Tuesday or Friday class. If space allows, there may be an option to attend both days.
